twenty twelve

*

has your year been lovely thus far? mine started off that way, then pestilence hit. nothing dreadful, it has just kept us home, missing out on a few outings & parties we had been looking forward to.

most of yesterday was spent in bed, reading with fifi le fire. i love fifi, & do not know how i managed without her for all these years. but that is a chat for another day.

i am off to attempt a nap with elfling. have a great one, do!

~peace.

ps :: the photo is unrelated to today's babble. this pestilence hasn't had us spending a large amount of time in the bathroom, i just stumbled across it in my archives. oldies may recognize it from thehobbit's old borrowers' house. i wish my bathroom was that clean. & large.

the princeling of pestilence

*

my sweet elfling prince has been sick for a few days now. he has had bursts of energy  now & again, but mostly his play has been quiet. (note :: i detest that toy he's holding. it is the loudest piece of plastic. it is crapstic.)

i haven't been able to enjoy that quiet however, because i have been too busy feeling my heart break. would you just look at that teeny red nose? & oh my - those puffy eyes make me want to cry. sigh.

my hope is that by the time you are reading this, he'll be back to normal. i am not getting much time to myself right now, so am writing this post a day in advance. that makes my today your tomorrow, and your today my yesterday. or some such.

~peace.

ps :: the crown he is wearing is one of my new smaller birthday crowns. whilst the regular ones can be adjusted to any head size, these new ones are scaled down for dinky heads. i'll get them in theshop... eventually.

pps :: that adorable shirt is by my sweet friend soap. i don't know if she has any in stock, but you can always ask her. here is the link.

drat!

well i had planned to write more, but then a certain someone; hiding his face in shame no doubt; caught his brother's pestilence. a sick 12yo is sad, but a sick 13mo is sad & exhausting.

when the boys are well, i shall be back with fabulosities (real word) galore.

room with a view

i am ever so bored. people haven't been coming by to entertain visit me. something about us being contagious with a nasty pestilence, blah, blah, blah. whatever.

i am also sick of being in my bedroom. i do venture into other parts of the belfry, but i tire so easily, so predominantly we're in here. it's just easier, what with the beds, the tv, the laptop - ya know?

we're fairly certain everyone is on the mend, so i'm giving thehobbit a bit more freedom. he was sick of having to stay in bed, & i don't blame him. today he celebrated his freedom by making a fort between/beneath the beds, & playing tetris on the floor. wild thing ;-)

one good thing about my bedroom is lying on the bed, & looking at this:

he's been very into his toys of late. at first it was just sammy, his monkey rattle from here, & his giraffe teether; but the other day he discovered his ball. ooooh how he loves it!

i wish you could see this ball in person, it is truly a work of art. his very talented auntie-b felted it. would you just look at the moon! (& the beautiful bebe.)

turn it around, & you find the sun! (& again the beautiful bebe.)

hidden deep within is a jingle bell; which delights my boy to no end.
so as bored as i am, (did i mention i am ever so bored?) at least i have beauty to feast my eyes upon. quite a view indeed.
what about you? what beauty has caught your eye lately?

piggies in the belfry

sorry i've not been posting -- the dreaded swine flu has hit the belfry. so far i've had it mild; so the doc tells me; i just hope it stays that way. it looks like the little belfries have it now --prayers/thoughts would be appreciated.

on a vastly more happy note:

blurry with a chance of pestilence

did you know that when your vision is blurred from a lack of sleep, you think the photos you're taking are in focus when they actually aren't? & that no matter how much you curse at the computer, your photos shall not improve? did you? did you?!

well we you know it now. you're welcome.

but the toes! even blurry they make me smile.

***
we've been playing a wicked game of pass the pestilence the past few weeks. as of today the score stands at: one seemingly better, one on the way to better, one in the thick of it, & one beginning today.
i have to say it's been no fun in the least, & i'd like to play something else. something like all well & relaxing in the south of france would be lovely.
& now i'm off to drink a hot cup of tea, & nibble on blurry toes.

a whine & a crown

it would seem that my body enjoyed being forced to do nothing but rest for over a week. feeling much better, i attempted a few errands this morning - then found myself back at home within the hour. just that little walking brought on uncomfortable contractions. my body has been happily resting in bed ever since.

unfortunately my mind has been miserable. i want to get things done, i want to clean my filthy house, i want to play! it dawned on me today that i may just have to give in, & accept that i may not have everything ready for thebebe's arrival, & my home may have to remain filthy. oh just writing about that last bit makes me want to cry!

i'll make a deal with you body: you let me get the house 100% cleaned before we leave for the hospital on tuesday, & i'll spend the rest of the time resting. i won't attempt errands, projects, or anything else - just let me get the place clean. you think about it, & get back to me. ok?

***
so as not to only whine & complain:
i did manage to make a birthday crown before the pestilence hit. it's a donation for this year's homeschool expo. the dragonfly artisans (hotlink still not working, please look under 'more kat' for the link) are giving a basket of fantasy play items to be raffled.

i really like the fake silver pearls, backed by the giant silver sequins - fancy, yet understated ;-)

& on that note, i'm off.

my new best friend in a cup

this is what got me through all of yesterday, & today:

lemon & honey tea. my doc suggested it (as did oddsox & paper), to help me muddle through the daytime without any meds. then early yesterday paper lovingly left a bag of lemons on my porch, for which i'm ever so grateful.
i have to say that i've grown quite sick of the taste of hot lemon & honey, but i'll stick with it because it does work. i need to get more ice cream honey today though; so shall have to brave the world beyond my little belfry.
i'm going to use the power of positive thinking to make me all better by tomorrow because: a) i'm beyond sick of being sick, & 2) we have dinner plans with friends i haven't seen in ages. clearly both excellent reasons for getting well quickly.
& now i'm off to make some more of my new best friend. what are you doing today?

15 July 2009

& the winner is...

it would seem i have won yet another coveted award. this time it was for having the most horrid pestilence one can have during the last few weeks of pregnancy. yes, 'tis true my dearest one & only reader - i have spent the last few days miserable, coughing up lungs & all sorts of things. the doc gave me wonderful drugs, but i'm only allowed to take them at night; so i can sleep. blah.

is this fate's way of forcing me to take it easy? a bit extreme if you ask me. i mean i know i'm not fabulous at taking it easy, but really now.

other than trying desperately to make it through each day, i do very little. mostly i stare at this:

i would love to toss the box into the recycling bin, but as you can see - it's being used.

thehobbit has always been drawn to boxes. i thought he'd eventually outgrow it, but clearly that isn't the case. i was near to insisting the box be taken out of the house when i was run over by the pestilence. now i'm considering paying it - what does a nanny charge these days?

as i type he is again in the box, & again reading the book pictured. it's a joke book, which i foolishly lovingly bought him yesterday at the pharmacy. hed been simply miserable seeing me so ill, & being unable to play with me or snuggle me, so i thought a bit of silliness would help.

i was right by the way, he's been having such fun reading & telling jokes. did you get that last bit? telling jokes. to ME. i didn't think about that when buying the book. holy maude but i want to run the book through the paper shredder.

so that's the latest from thebelfry. i hope you & yours are feeling vastly better than i. before i go here is a snippet from earlier today:

th: hey mama? mama? mama! why did the chicken cross the playground?

k: (barely audible grunt)

th: to get to the other slide! get it mama?! side? slide? hahahahahahaha slide.

~peace.
