birthday, the dress rehearsal

 *

should you be frantically searching for the perfect frosting with which to top my birthday cake - search no further! pioneer woman shares a recipe for the most delicious frosting ever. i stumbled upon it a few weeks ago, & have already made it twice.

the dragonfly artisans threw me the loveliest of pre-birthday bashes last night. i was excited to share my find with them, so managed not to butcher made chocolate cupcakes (an organic box mix), & slathered them with the frosting.

everyone loved them.

i only wish i had made a second batch just for me to eat today. sigh.

~peace.
note :: this frosting is the farthest thing from a healthy food one could get. it is also neither gluten-free, nor vegan.

waldorf winter faire aught nine

my assistant/bebe & hobbit wrangler/carrier of heavy items/eye candy had to work a tournament saturday, so i was left to do the show without his hoped-for help. manlyman has never helped at a show before, but i wasn't sure i could do it with a squirmy bebe on my hip.

not only did i manage, but i braved the rain to do so! ok, i didn't stay the whole day, but that was the fault of a clothing mishap, not my freaking.

i think what made the day possible (besides the support of my fellow dragonflies) was the elimination of as many stresses as possible. such as bringing my lightweight small table, in lieu of my heavier behemoth. the wisest choice i made was to bring only the barest of stock, & all things for which i didn't need shelves or other cumbersome display. when i realized i had to go home, i was able to quickly pile it all into one bin.

my tiny table in all it's wrinkled glory:

for having a small number of things for sale, & only being there a short time, it was a pretty darn good day. & now i'm off to go holiday shopping with my earnings :-)

tea for me

last night i was treated like a princess! the dragonfly artisans took me to a tea room, to celebrate my upcoming bebe. i had neither blessingway, nor shower for thehobbit, so was giddy with delight at being pampered so.

they gave me poetry, prezzies, & beautiful beads (to create a birthing necklace); followed by a scrumptious supper.

i had a spinach/artichoke pie with chips. the pie was amazing - i salivate each time i think about it.
if you're ever in santa monica, you really must go to there for supper (i haven't been for tea). not only is the food outstanding, the owner & her son were delightful. btw: oddsox is a brit, & was thrilled by the food; so i imagine it was proper british fare. i wouldn't know, as i only play a brit on tv ;-)
what did i ever do to deserve such loving friends?

day :: 20

last night was the tu-wednesday night craft! i know i've said this a kajillion times; but they are absolutely nutters an amazing group of mamas. i could never have gotten this far with the bizzie if not for them. they've taught me to knit, to crochet, & to felt. they have shared their resources, their books, & their supplies. i could go on & on; but it would take me a lifetime.

i do want to say this though: one of the ways they support my crafting is by their accolades. not that i don't appreciate crafting-love from all my friends; this is simply different. i sit with them each week (more often with some) to craft for birthdays, holidays, etsy shops, & craft fairs. they see the struggles & the successes as they occur, & immediately offer support or cheers as needed. they also allow me to do the same for them - which makes me feel truly blessed.

in case you're new here, i thought i'd take the time to introduce my partners in crime.

is it time yet for bed?

there was a power outage that lasted from 6ish pm, until 10 pm last night. normally i'd be thrilled at the prospect of a quiet adventure, light a few candles, & snuggle next to manlyman with a book, or a craft project. we did light candles, (because being able to see is a good thing) but it was so abnormally, freakishly hot that neither wanted to sit anywhere near the other. books didn't hold my attention for more than a few minutes, & the thought of crafting whilst sweating in places a girl ought not held no appeal. i was hot, crabby, antsy, & probably annoying. it was quiet to be sure, but it wasn't an adventure.

after a time reading, manlyman gave in to the heat & the quiet, & fell asleep. i became bored without someone to pester, so puttered about in the dark, playing with flashlights, & talking to myself. later i made him go to bed so i could have the couch all to myself. when the power came back on, i lay in the dark, mindlessly watching television, glad for the distraction.

i should have done yoga, or meditated before going off to bed. anything to switch my head & body out of the strange mood of the eve. because i did nothing, i slept poorly. today i have a zillion errands to do, & no energy. this should be fun. bright side? it's wednesday, which means craft night! & did i tell you...

dragonfly happenings

i forgot to order decaf last night (weekly mama crafting,) so didn't get to bed until quite late. thehobbit celebrated that as only a small child can - by getting up with the dawn. he then declared he was starved unto the very brink of death, & said something about it being ok if i stayed in bed, because he could cook some eggs by himself. um no. oh solo reader of mine... i am a tad tired. & by tad i mean help.

i've a few things to share with you today!

* dragonfly artisans now has a home. it is not to be a chatty home, just one for announcements, shop updates, etc. there you'll find the links to the artisans' blogs, & their shops (when they all get off their arses, & get their shops filled.)

* oddsox has joined dragonfly artisans!

* the talented women of dragonfly artisans shall have a booth at a local spring fair on the 31st of may. more information on that soon. start saving your pennies!

* there was something else, but it has fallen out of my head.

today is to be thehobbit's first time with friends since the pestilence hit. he's still not fully himself, but i believe it's just in the lingering stage now. i hope anyway. he needs to see his bestest buddies... he's so lonely for them. apparently we parent-types; as silly as we are; are no substitute for the 3 goofkateers.

have a lovely day!

oh! i remembered the something else! due to only recently getting off dial-up, manlyman & i are new to the joys of youtube. we... ok i... am a showtune fiend. it occurred to me the other night, that i could watch some of my faves on youtube. i had no idea what i would find!!! everything! everyone! there are so many videos i want to show you, but i decided to narrow it down to one (you're welcome.) watch this.
